Westmann Islands (25 km).  Offshore volcanic islands where an eruption in 1973 partly destroyed the fishing town there.  Ferry from Landeyjahöfn.

Seljavellir (12 km).  A geothermal swimming pool built into a rock face at the foot of the glacier Eyjafjallajökull.

Skógar (16 km).  Skógafoss, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland.  Hiking trails to Fimmvörðuháls and Þórsmörk, and to Landmannalaugar via the Laugavegur route.

Sólheimajökull (25 km).  A deeply crevassed glacier tongue.  Guided glacier hikes.

Vík (45 km).  Vast expanses of volcanic sand at Mýrdalssandur, and cliffs and black-sand beaches at Vík, Reynisfjara and Dyrhólaey.  Seabird colonies at Dyrhólaey, Vík and the Westmann Islands.
